Get A Head Start On Spring Cleaning!

Spring Cleaning, organization, closetGet a head start on Spring Cleaning! Yes, you read correctly. I said to get a head start on Spring Cleaning. We are nearing the end of the year and this is actually the best time to get started on your Spring Cleaning. If you are anything like me, and, by the fact that you are reading this article in our blog, I’m guessing you are, your head is full of plans for the coming year. Some call these New Year’s Resolutions, others simply goals/plans to accomplish in the coming year. Either way, think of them as motivation for self and home improvement.

So you and your family got tons of presents over the holidays, and you know you are blessed, but now you are thinking of where you’re going to put everything? Great question. Over the years, our blessings accumulate and we begin to see them as clutter. Why not start going through them and selecting things you can now do without. Perhaps there is a great charity you can donate them to just in time for it to count as a deduction in your taxes. Not willing to give them away? Have you heard of all the great new apps for you to sell your belongings to people willing to pay you in cash for them? Check out your app store to see if one of them is a good fit.

Best place to start? Your closet! We all have that top/dress/pants that we are waiting to fit back into or for it to come back into style. Trust me, if you have been waiting for over 5 years, odds of this happening are growing slimmer. Why not get rid of it once and for all? For me, what works best is starting three piles. First, the stuff you just aren’t ready to let go of. Second, the stuff you love but know it could find a better home (for donation/sale). Finally, your third pile should be things that you should have thrown out years ago and just kept getting overlooked. Repeat this process with your kids clothes and toys.

With the money you make selling your things, should you choose that route, you can then afford to buy organizing supplies such as bins and closet organizers. Who knows, you might make enough money to afford hiring some help to deep clean the house once you have it organized.
